gezichtsherkenning, zelfrijdende auto’s en medische toepassingen: we kunnen niet meer om kunstmatige intelligentie heen. Het verandert onze levens, zoals ooit stoommachines ten tijde van de industriële revolutie dit deden. De tentoonstelling BrAInpower laat zien waar AI met succes kan worden ingezet, hoe we er de vruchten van plukken, maar belicht ook de schaduwkanten.Gastconservator Bas Haring is de gids in deze expositie en leidt de bezoeker langs thema’s over vrije wil, consequent redeneren, zelf leren en: hoe bijzonder zijn wij eigenlijk? De verschillende thema's geven stof tot nadenken: hoe hebben de computer en AI ons leven verrijkt? En: wat zijn de schaduwzijden ervan? Er wordt in de tentoonstelling aandacht besteed aan discriminerende data: hoe bevooroordeeld zijn algoritmes? Maar ook aan het gebruik van AI voor de verwerking van een posttraumatische stressstoornis (PTSS) of voor het stellen van een kankerdiagnose. Persoonlijke verhalen laten zien hoe AI overal aanwezig is en welke impact dit heeft op ons leven. In de tentoonstelling staan historische, wetenschappelijke en kunstobjecten, waaronder de Next Rembrandt van Wunderman Thomson, de Reprobots van Gusz Eiben, zorgrobot Alice, het project 0,0146 seconds van kunstenares Julia Janssen en een deepfake van Alan Turing. Tot de highlights van BrAInpower behoren originele brieven van Alan Turing, de grondlegger van kunstmatige intelligentie, die Rijksmuseum Boerhaave speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling van King’s College in Cambridge in bruikleen heeft. Voor de vormgeving van de tentoonstelling en het ontwerp van het campagnebeeld is AI gebruikt. Zo werd de typografie in de tentoonstelling en voor de campagne door AI gegenereerd en vormgegeven. De nieuwe tentoonstelling BrAInpower is van 9 september 2022 t/m 5 maart 2023 te zien bij Rijksmuseum Boerhaave. The design system is based on 2 variable fonts: they can alter, reshape themself and get other meanings over time. By using a font that is generated by a machine learning algorithm trained on 2674 fonts (project by Nan.xyz) the typography is embodying content of the exhibition. Visually it represents the rebellious 80s infused spirits of D.I.Y. punk culture and so PLANET ART + Niet Normaal. Team Human strikes back!On the website the letters grow and slink in their own phase, slightly distorting the information. Fake News tickers ask for your click. Neon flickering chromatic type is drawing your attention to discover all the artists represented in the exhibition. When you offer it a coin a sequence of hypnosis will follow - the anarchistic algorithm picks a movie without any human control. The spiral, as found on the box now pops up on the screen - moving and counting down with a title sequence of the film the oracle has chosen for you. The overarching visual started out inspired by anime culture (and free footage), celebrating alike themes: fantasties, fictional futures, action-filled plots, vibrant stories captured in stark colorful graphics. The box never changes it’s visuality, but everytime we exhibit the 1 Euro Cinema we give the digital visual and space a big metamorphosis representing the theme of the serie. It was midst covid lockdown in the Netherlands and the urges were high to go on vacation and escape reality.The 1 Euro Cinema online x Coupled World series has 4 different islands where videoworks live as flora and fauna. In this neon litted set-up you were able to go on a search for these critters or just enjoy the view of endless digital beaches. All from under an umbrella in an office chair planted in the sand. For the sharp player, clues of the hiding places of the critters on the special designed wallpaper. By all inclusive travel Burgertrut served a cocktail in this beach resort e-cafe corresponding to islands you visited. And while leaving you could send your chosen family a message by the Coupled Worlds postcard. impact through the lens of the interior. We blur our homes on digital 'street views', build Faraday cages around beds, at the same time we let strangers stay in our homes and share pictures of what we eat online; earning a penny for each click. Our home is no longer just a place to live; it's a means of sustenance, a place where we participate in or disturb political systems, and also a place where we are part of the global economy. The exhibition DOMESTIC AFFAIRS explores the house as an interface to our social, economic, and political lives. Domestic Affairs is a triptych, which started in Köln during Passagen, the continued as Dutch Pavillion at the Bi-city Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism in Shenzhen and Hongkong, and will have its' finissage in Doha, Qatar in spring 2016. Design Displacement Group operated as ‘live reporters’ in a production unit, working on interviews, breaking news stories and image making. Everything was live-streamed as a nonlinear documentary and broadcasted online. Rise &amp; Shine aims to manifest and mediate the cultural capital present in Shenzhen. The Dutch initiatives differ in scale and circles of influence yet have an inquisitive state of mind and a knack for optimization in common. This is expressed through small-scale, often temporary interventions, the reassessment of resources and local production. Typical for these design and research attitudes are co-creation and commoning, craftsmanship through technology and the ‘dematerialization’ of design into smart strategies.
